National Disability Institute (NDI) seeks an experienced and dynamic Communications and Marketing Director to lead strategic initiatives that amplify our mission of financial capability and economic empowerment for people with disabilities. In this role, you will develop and implement an integrated communications plan, strengthen NDI’s brand identity and expand our impact through traditional and digital media. Reporting to the Deputy Director, you will work across teams, ensuring NDI’s message reaches key audiences at the national, state and local levels.
This is a full-time, remote position with occasional extended hours required to meet deadlines. NDI is anchored by the Eastern time zone. Applicants from other time zones are expected to reasonably align their work schedule with their supervisor.
Responsibilities & Duties
- Develop and implement a strategic communications plan to increase the visibility of NDI’s programs and initiatives among diverse stakeholders in both public and private sectors.
- Strengthen NDI’s brand as an innovative, problem-solving organization focused on advancing economic opportunities for individuals with disabilities.
- Lead and oversee marketing campaigns, social media strategies and the creation of impactful materials that highlight NDI’s achievements and partnerships.
- Serve as a communications and branding advisor to NDI leadership.
- Manage the Communications Team, ensuring all materials align with NDI’s messaging, priorities and brand integrity across all platforms.
- Oversee NDI’s website, e-newsletters and other digital communications to effectively convey our mission and successes.
- Develop strong relationships with media outlets, prepare talking points and create materials that enhance NDI’s presence at national conferences and key events.
- Establish and execute a multi-channel communications strategy.
- Lead the creation of digital, video, audio and print content.
- Support fundraising efforts to include proposals and the launch of an Individual Giving strategy.
- Contribute to creation of proposals and budgets to adequately reflect activities and costs relevant to the Communications Team.
- Manage communications-related vendors and consultants.
- Manage NDI’s presence at industry events, trade shows and conferences.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, public relations, or a related field (master’s preferred).
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in communications leadership with a proven ability to manage complex communications strategies.
- Strong understanding of traditional and digital media, branding and website content management.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate complex ideas into clear, compelling messages for diverse audiences.
- Experience working with people with disabilities or in financial empowerment sectors is a plus.
- Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with remote teams.
- Proficiency with communications technologies, including content management systems and digital media tools.
- Familiarity with social media platforms, social media marketing and search engine marketing (Google Analytics and Google Ad Grants).
- Exceptional copywriting and copy-editing skills.
- Strong leadership and team management abilities.
- Excellent verbal communication and presentation skills.
- Fluency in Spanish is a plus.
