Today, National Disability Institute (NDI), in partnership with Citi, announced a list of 39 national community-based nonprofit organizations that will receive a share of a $1MM donation from Citi. NDI and Citi selected the community-based organizations, located in 20 states, to receive amounts ranging from $15,000-25,000. The awarded recipients will use the funds to continue providing direct services to low-income people with disabilities, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Throughout the country, many organizations are struggling to provide relief during the COVID-19 pandemic to people with disabilities in the low-income communities they serve,” said Elizabeth Jennings, Acting Executive Director, National Disability Institute. “We are grateful to Citi for providing the opportunity to direct financial resources to support the work of these organizations and amplify the message that people with disabilities must not be overlooked during this crisis.”
Ed Skyler, Head of Global Public Affairs at Citi, added, “As a firm, we’re committed to addressing the needs of people with disabilities in both the workplace and our local communities. This pandemic has only compounded the considerable challenges faced by people with disabilities and requires a substantive, collaborative response. Our support of NDI and organizations across the country will help bring critical services to some of the most vulnerable individuals with disabilities.”
Organizations will use Citi’s funding to support people with disabilities in low-income communities by providing medical and personal care, as well as food assistance; helping obtain and maintain employment; purchasing personal protective equipment (PPE) such as face masks, gloves and hand sanitizer to protect against COVID-19; securing assistive technology such as laptops, tablets and software as part of a lending program to support students in their remote studies; providing short-term rental assistance; and offering additional support services and equipment to ensure continued services reach this vulnerable population.
