National Disability Institute (NDI) Executive Director, Michael Morris, took part in a panel discussion today at The Just Economy Conference, hosted by the National Community Reinvestment Coalition (NCRC), in Washington, D.C. The session, titled “The Role of Branch Banks and Technology in Expanding Bank Services,” shared innovative modernizations in branch bank technology, targeted marketing and outreach to strengthen access to financial services and products for vulnerable populations and communities including people with disabilities, immigrants and older adults.
In his presentation, Mr. Morris discussed the banking status of adults with disabilities, barriers they experience to the banking system and the opportunities that exist for financial institutions to build trust and transcend compliance to better serve the disability community.
The Just Economy Conference is one of the nation’s largest gatherings of community nonprofits, policymakers, government officials, small businesses, banks and academia, all coming together to create a just economy.
The conference features a wide range of sessions on community organizing and advocacy, housing, access to capital and credit, workforce and community development, fair lending and business development; experts and advocates sharing new developments, best practices and innovative ideas for community reinvestment; and keynote addresses from prominent officials and leaders.
NCRC and its grassroots member organizations create opportunities for people to build wealth. The organization works with community leaders, policymakers and financial institutions to champion fairness in banking, housing and business development. Its members include community reinvestment organizations, community development organizations, local and state government agencies, faith-based institutions, community organizing and civil rights groups, minority and women-owned business associations and social service providers from across the nation.
