Every October, we observe National Disability Employment Awareness Month, or “#NDEAM.” NDEAM recognizes the value people with disabilities bring to America’s workforce. Unlocking that value begins with access to opportunities. The theme of this year’s celebration, “Access to Good Jobs for All,” is both a reminder that work to eliminate systemic barriers to employment remains to be done and a chance to reaffirm our collective commitment to ensuring that employees with disabilities receive the supports that allow them, their employers and our economy to thrive.
National Disability Institute (NDI) believes in changing policies, expectations and services to overcome the barriers to employment facing workers with disabilities. NDI operates the LEAD WIOA Policy Development Center, which continues to highlight how access to good jobs in infrastructure, clean energy and advanced manufacturing are leading to employment success stories. In addition to real-life examples that showcase the benefits of disability employment, the LEAD Center provides resources on the Good Jobs Initiative (GJI), led by the U.S. Department of Labor. The initiative is focused on providing critical information to workers, employers and the government as they work to improve job quality and create access to good jobs free from discrimination and harassment for all working people. Access the LEAD Center webinar, “The Good Jobs Initiative (GJI): Creating Employment Opportunities for People with Disabilities,” to hear from employers and the people with disabilities they employ in good jobs.
Good jobs can be a part of everyone’s American dream. NDI’s American Dream Employment Network (ADEN) shares ADEN Success Stories, which focus on the accomplishments of Social Security disability beneficiaries through Social Security Administration’s (SSA) Ticket to Work program. Listen to a Podcast Series, watch a video and explore metrics that demonstrate the difference ADEN is making in the lives of its participants and members in creating paths to employment and financial stability.
