One in four people with disabilities live in poverty and face barriers that hinder their access to employment, education, skills development, financial services and full participation in their communities. People of color with a disability face an even harder economic reality, as 37 percent of Black Americans with disabilities live in poverty; 24 percent of Non-Hispanic Whites; 29 percent of Latinos and 19 percent of Asian-Americans.
Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC) Americans with disabilities face unique systemic challenges as a result of their intersecting identities. The systemic injustices lead to economic inequality. It is vital to ensure community development does not leave behind BIPOC communities, the disability community or individuals that are part of multiple communities.
This webinar will provide an overview of the racial gaps in financial outcomes and the racial wealth divide, highlight data on economic inequality and include a panel discussion on solutions from thought leaders in community development and the disability community.
